It was an inauspicious start to life with the new pins as Hustlers sank slowly but surely to defeat against Brolly Boyz at the London Inn.
First leg was asymmetric with Lloyd’s 29 gaining him 6 pins over his opponent but John with 37 only held his man. Malc found lots of gaps between king and quarter and dropped 8 to his opponent leaving a deficit of 2 to make up.
Lewis led the line on second leg and his speed overcame the vagaries of the alley, finishing with a fine 42, the highest on the night. The other two shipped pins however and the result was the same as the first leg – a shortfall of another 2 pins.
Third leg went the same way; there were no scores in the 20s but no high scores either. Both teams continued to be evenly matched and for the third leg in a row Hustlers fell short by 2 pins.
So, with a reachable 6 pin deficit, last leg stepped up to turn the game around. Unfortunately the leg started badly and although Hustlers managed a reasonable 111 in the end, the Brolly Boys’ last two players both scored 40s and the game was eventually lost by 17 pins.
