On a challenging alley, Hustlers managed to stay ahead of the Globetrotters throughout the evening by going through fewer gaps than the opposition. Most of Hustlers’ remaining games are now at home.
It was neck and neck on a low scoring first leg but at the end, Hustlers just kept their noses ahead by 4 pins.
Second leg went the same way but the game livened up on the last hand when Clive scored a 14 spare and the only 40 of the night, which was crucial in increasing Hustlers’ lead by 7 pins.
This meant that third leg had the relative comfort of an 11 pin advantage. Despite all Hustlers’ attempts to squander this lead, Globetrotters decided to play their weakest leg and Hustlers ended up adding a further 8 pins to the account.
So more by gradual accumulation than outright skill, Hustlers found themselves in the lead by 19 pins going into last leg. This leg proved as undistinguished as the others but, despite a Globetrotter recovery, managed to slip pins too slowly for them to catch up. The deficit on the leg was 7 pins and Hustlers eased themselves into a 12 pin victory.
