A stunning Hustlers last leg was alas not enough to recover the game against some old friends from past years at the Robins Club.
First leg showed how the alley favoured the faster bowlers with Rob’s 42 contrasting starkly with Malc and Andy who both struggled in the 20s. The 30 pin deficit went a long way to deciding the fortunes in this game. Typical of the Hustlers’ up and down season was Rob’s 13 spare and Malc’s beaver, both of which were on the fifth hand.
Second leg was ten pins better but with no-one making their mark on the game, Hustlers lost a further 11 pins. Third leg went the same way; another ten pins better off but we still shipped a further 3 pins and went into the last leg some 44 pins in arrears.
Up stepped last leg. With Gary in support, Clive scored two spares and a further 9 which gave him a season’s best total of 56 while Neil, with a 13 and a non-scoring 9 spare, ended up with 51. Hustlers’ last leg of 142 beat Kraftsmens’ 122 (which in itself was a record for that club on that alley) but the gain of 20 pins was insufficient to make up the difference and Hustlers lost by 24 pins.
