Hustlers achieved a first for many years as they managed to get past the first round of the Charities Cup against a pleasant team away at home.
For various reasons Hustlers were down to their bare twelve for this match, the most notable absentee being Rob who reported sick when Arsenal were not even on the TV last night. As a result first leg included Captain Neil who would otherwise have been judging from the bench. John shone with a consistent 42 but his two colleagues demonstrated how hard it is to get good help nowadays and the Hustlers ended the leg one pin down.
Second leg performance was no improvement on the first but at least they made three pins and at the end of the leg Hustlers found themselves in the unusual position of being a couple of pins in front.
Third leg sparkled. Well, two of them did, and both Lloyd and Gary scored spares worthy of paying money to watch. These two ended with 43 and 42 respectively, the highest leg of the night and a lead of a further 12 pins.
So to last leg and, when all they had to do was hold onto their lead, they crashed and nearly burned. Barry the beaver has an open invitation to join Ant at home (we believe he summered at Lofty’s stately pile) but fortunately the Pleasant Fellows’ last leg was nothing to write home about either and Hustlers managed to pluck the last pheasant just 8 pins to the good.
