‘SLURS CHOSE VICTORY OVER THE CHAMPS

The Hustlers took to the road to take on an ageing Chosen Champs team at the Churchdown Club.

First leg was still level after 5 hands but Hustlers had a strong finish to take an 8 pin lead, with Gary and Lloyd matching their men and Clive bagging the difference.

Second leg was also close, with Hustlers conceding two pins to be 6 up at the half way point. It was a consistent showing from the Pete’s and a more animated display from Brian who annoyed himself by getting a 1, and followed it up with an 8 and a 9 to get his night back on track and keep in touch with his man.

The third leg was – you guessed it – close, with Steve and Ant beating their men and Dave unluckily paired against the Champs highest scorer. Despite Ant bagging the first 40 of the night the ‘Slurs finished 5 pins down to go into the anchor leg with a single pin lead.

Chatz stepped up and, although we didn’t know it at the time, won the game on his first turn. Chipping out the middle pin with his first ball no-one saw the fantastically taken round 8 spare coming, but when it did it lifted Hustlers and the Chosen Champs dropped their heads (or maybe some of them passed away). Despite Rob’s attempt to make a game of it Hustlers steadily built a lead and managed the game out to end up by 13 pins – unlucky for the Champs – with Neil ending on 42 and Chatz top scoring with 46, and a night to remember.
