Vikings team members will tell their children that they were present when one of their team scored a double flattener – certainly the first in Hustlers’ corporate memory – but, toytown alley aside, they inflicted a crushing defeat on our gallant 12.First leg would have held their own if it had not been for a 55, including a 15 spare, by one of the Vikings team which, despite a 40 by Clive, left Hustlers with a deficit of 17 to make up.
Second leg saw Captain Clive bale out to see his new grandson when Lewis turned up, just in time to win the raffle and give Clive a lift home. Chairman Andy took over in the absence of Vice Rob, but it was not enough to stem the rot. The damage was caused by another Viking 55, this time with two spares to his name, and a further 22 pin deficit saw third leg facing a 39 pin difference.
Third leg was better for Hustlers with Steve, Andy and Gary all managing something in the low 40s, with Andy offering accommodation for a meerkat after his 9 spare. Unfortunately all three Vikings managed to score a few pins more, and Hustlers went into the fourth leg a further 16 pins down.
With 55 pins to make up, it was all or bust for Hustlers. All three on last leg (Pete, Chris and Neil) managed a spare and some good 40s but all eyes were on Vikings’ last leg; one player scored 65 with a spare and the above-mentioned 21 double-flattener, and another managed 53 with a further spare. As a result Hustlers shipped a further 23 pins and ran out narrow losers by a mere 78 pins.
No game next week. Good…
