Still reeling from last week’s tight finish, Hustlers returned to Fortress Suffolk to face table-topping Fox & Hounds, looking to resume those winning ways.
And what a start, with a pair of 9s each for Rob (not an invalid any more) and top-scoring Marty taking them to our fIrst 40s and helping them establish a a splendid 11-pin lead. Pete looked to join the party as he opened with another 9, before narrowly losing narrowly to his man, starting a new trend as we dropped 12 pins to trail by a solitary pin at the midpoint and the game very finely balanced.
With Rob & Rich taking the raffle, third leg set about hauling back the gap, an endeavour in which they failed dramatically as they conceded another 10 pins, leaving the anchors still with a chance of pulling it all back. And they went well, pulling pins steadily, with Gary getting our sole spare on his way to our third 40 of the night and Clive narrowly missing out on adding another Sadly, they cold only manage to close the gap by a single pin, leaving us trailing by 10, with the fifth leg to play ……. bummer!
It’s away next week to the Charlton Club to face Cowley CC – will we bowl them over?
