HUSTLERS STUMPED FOR IDEAS AT SHURDINGTON CC

Hustlers were clean bowled against a Shurdington team who used all their experience in playing this deceptively difficult alley. For personal averages it proved a good night to be dropped.

First leg started quite well but fell away badly from the third hand. Malc in particular had a torrid time with four low scores and his opponent doubling his total. One good omen was Rob who came through after injury without any problems but even his 41 was not enough to prevent a loss of 22 pins on the leg.

Second leg started as though they would continue the rot – and indeed they did, with all three players losing pins to their opponents and shipping a further 16 pins in the process.

On third leg Steve was unlucky to get a 2 in the middle of some good scores but still ended up with 40 while Rich, after a hesitant start, pulled off a fine 43 and knocked 7 off the deficit on his own. Third leg’s overall gain of 4 pins meant last leg only required 34 pins more than the opposition !

Last leg strove courageously with Anthony getting his customary score over 40 and sharing top score with Rich, but Clive was up against a good anchor man and the leg was unable to make up the difference, losing by a further three pins and resulting in a 37 pin defeat.
