Hustlers were well beaten by a Syndicate team that seemed more at home than the home team.First leg was paradoxical in that Malc, despite his 26 being eight pins below both his team-mates’ scores, was the only player to beat his man. Nevertheless at this stage a deficit of 5 pins on the leg was nothing to panic about.
Second leg contrived to achieve the same total as first leg. However, the opposition were better by 13 pins and third leg was left with an 18 pin deficit.
Third leg managed slightly better but still failed to reach the 100 pin mark and each player lost to his opponent. The shortfall of a further 17 pins presented a daunting task for fourth leg.
Despite chasing a lost cause, last leg started well and kept pressing the opposition. Highlight of the leg was Steve’s demonstration of how not to score a spare; his first hand resulted in a 9 spare and earned him the Return Of The Meerkat while his second spare, on the last hand, produced just one additional pin and the approbation of the rest of his side who had to pay him 30p each for the privilege of watching it. He did at least score the only 40 of the night, but last leg pulled just 4 pins to end with a 31-pin defeat.
