On another up and down night Hustlers failed to match the more consistent scores of the Superstars and crashed to another defeat. On this performance mid-table obscurity is looking an optimistic target to reach.
First leg showed some promise with both Neilson and Swayner scoring creditable 40s but the leg ended up slightly behind Superstars.
Second leg sputtered. Clive was up and down like a kangaroo’s jockstrap but redeemed his 2, 3 and 5 with two 7s and a magnificent 15 spare. However, Lloyd and Andy shipped 20 pins between them to the opposition which left third leg with a 22 pin shortfall to make up.
Undaunted, third leg started well and, against a moderate opposition, made considerable inroads into the deficit. Lewis did not require his dad’s spare to reach 40 and the three Hustlers pulled back 12 pins to leave last leg with a manageable 8 pin deficit.
The game could have been won but in the end Superstars had too much firepower against a misfiring last leg and Hustlers lost a further 6 pins on the leg, resulting in a defeat by 16 pins.
