Back at the Suffolk, Hustlers were looking to complete a rare double over Chosen Champs ahead of our mini-break and the much anticipated Exmouth trip.
With Gary opening with our first 40 of the night (and his highest of the season), and Chris deciding that he wanted to take possession of Mo, the “almost” Meerkat, first leg cheered us with an early 4-pin lead. But second leg weren’t happy with this, so they set about it, ith bottom-scoring Dave going home with Barry the Brasilian Beaver as they dropped 13 pins, to go behind by just 9 pins at the midpoint.
Buouyed by Dave and Gary walking off with the raffle prizes, third leg set about changing the game once more. Despite AS regaining some form to beat his man and Rob opening with our top spare to claim top score, it proved to be not quite enough, as Steve made his lowest score of the season and we dropped another 3 pins. But there was still a chance, as the anchors set out to pull the 12-pin deficit back. With 40s from Pete and Neil (with a pair of 9s), the gap was slowly closed, but they fell short by that narrowest of margins.
We have a bye next week (Sinners), leading up to our weekend away and an expedition, on our return, to face the Outsiders at Cleeve Golf Club.
