A woe for our final match of the first round, Hustlers were looking forward to a nice Christmas present from old friends Eagle Star A, without making too much of a meal of it.
First course proved to be a bit of an appetiser for the Eagles, as TC hit the first of the night’s gold rings, to gain possession of Barry, the Brasilian Beaver, before a slow slight recovery saw us drop 11 pins. Second leg proved a little tastier, as Mark became our top BYM and AS the turkey, but only dropping a further 3 pins.
We hoped that third leg could serve up the main course but, whilst improving, the novelty of more beavers from Steve and Chris saw us drop behind by five more pins, leaving the anchors to chase a 19-pin and deliver us the puddings. So the sweet course (a trio of Jeremy Kyles) was delivered. But, despite top scorer Neil (for both sides) getting just the second 40 of the night and being our only winning leg, rhey could only pull back a dozen pins. And so our sleigh pulled up just 7 pins short and we were left with the empty end of the cracker.
But 2015 brings a news start as we look forward to a second half of the season, with plenty to play for (we’re not too far off a 50:50 season so far) – who knows, Santa might just leave us a little luck in our stockings this year.
