On an alley about which surely no-one can have any complaints, Hustlers suffered a narrow Charities Cup defeat to the Old Golds from Division 5.
First leg began as we intended to carry on – with a loss of 9 pins. As seems too often to be the case, the player with the highest score lost the most pins to his opponent.
Second leg saw the introduction of our two newest (re-)signings. Lewis did a fine job with a 43, spoilt only by a 4, and totally outclassed his Dad while Jim-Bob began with a 4, followed that with a 14 spare, and then proceeded on the path back to mediocrity. The best bit was that our second leg pulled a pin.
Third leg scored the same total as the second, the difference being that this time they gained 11 pins on their opponents. An ignominious hand of 8 (marked by a beaver by Chatz) was followed by one of 26 (marked by a spare from, you guessed it, Chatz). Mention should also be made in dispatches of Pete, whose 15 spare helped him to 46 and bragging rights of 16 pins over his opponent.
This placed Hustlers into a lead of 3 pins going into last leg. Anthony scored another consistent 45 but he was the only Hustler to gain on his man; the other two Old Golds both scored in the 40s and this was enough to push their noses over the line by 5 pins.
